Phagwara, September 21
Tension prevailed in the campus of Lovely Professional University amid noisy slogans of hundreds of students shouting “we want justice” when a B-Design first year student allegedly died by suicide. He allegedly hanged himself with the ceiling in his hostel room at Lovely Professional University campus on Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Agun, a resident of Kerala.

Heavy police force was deputed and Kapurthala SSP Navneet Singh Bains also rushed to the site.
While talking to ‘The Tribune’ here on Wednesday morning, SSP Bains said a suicide note was also recovered from the site of suicide in which only personal reasons were found written as the cause of suicide.
Meanwhile, DSP Jaspreet Singh, while speaking about the incident, said that as per prima facie the student was having some personal issues, as written in the suicide note left by the deceased.
It was learnt that the police was forced to use mild force to disburse the students late last night, but the SSP denied it.
SSP Bains said the parents of the student have been informed, who would reach the university later in the day. Meanwhile, the body of the deceased student has been kept in the mortuary of the Civil Hospital in wait of the family of the deceased.
SSP Bains has appealed to the students to maintain peace and assured that the police would investigate the case in “impartial way”.
This comes days after ‘objectionable videos’ row broke out followed by massive protests showcased by the Chandigarh University students in Mohali. Protesting students alleged that a student filmed videos of girl students who were bathing. The videos were allegedly also posted on social media. The protesting students had claimed that after the videos went viral, some girl students living in the hostel attempted suicide. However, the police refuted the claim.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had ordered setting up of a three-member-all-women Special Investigation Team (SIT) of police officials to probe into the case.
“LPU fraternity is saddened by the unfortunate incident. The initial investigation by the Police, and the contents of the suicide note point towards personal issues of the deceased. The University is providing full support to the authorities for further investigation,” the statement said.
“The University mourns the loss of the student and expresses its condolences to the bereaved family,” it added.
