Pawan Khera arrested for remarks against PM Modi; Congress moves Supreme Court

New Delhi, February 23

The Congress has moved the Supreme Court after its leader Pawan Khera was arrested on Thursday for his recent remarks against PM Narendra Modi.

The apex court will hear the party’s plea at 3pm on Thursday.

Earlier, Delhi Police tried to detain Congress spokesperson Khera from inside a Raipur-bound flight at Terminal 1 of the Delhi airport following which the Congress members held a demonstration at the tarmac leading to delay in the departure of the flight.

An Assam Police team later took away Khera from the tarmac.

Khera was deboarded from the flight earlier.

Debabrata Saikia, Congress leader, who was among the passengers of the IndiGo flight, said an FIR had been registered against Khera in Guwahati.

It is learnt that Khera has been booked for his recent comment on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Senior Congress leaders Tariq Anwar, Randeep Surjewala, Mani Shankar Aiyer and KC Venugopal who were aboard the same flight for going to Raipur to attend the Plenary Session of the party starting in Raipur from Friday, also disembarked from the aircraft and a demonstration started at the tarmac.

After a delay of more than an hour, during which Delhi Police personnel tried to reason with the Congress leaders to hand over Khera, an Assam Police team finally arrived.

Khera was taken away while Randeep Surjewala accompanied him.

Indigo has arranged another flight for the stranded passengers.

The plane’s scheduled departure was at 11.45am. However, it has already been delayed by over two hours. With agencies
